Tri club for Bucks

New boost for sport in Bucks as tri club launches

Sport in Bucks was given another major boost as a new triathlon club was unveiled at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

The stadium recently announced its support for the new Stoke Mandeville Tri Club (SMTri),  an inclusive, professionally-coached club open to triathletes and people looking for a challenge.

The club, which is affiliated to British triathlon, will be using the stadium’s facilities including the pool, track and spinning area for its coached sessions, and the beautiful surrounding countryside for its endurance sessions.

Bucks Legacy Manager Ian Barham hailed the development as significant, given that para-triathlon will be a Paralympic sport from 2016.

A statement from the stadium said: "SMTri has joined up with Stoke Mandeville Stadium due to the great facilities on offer at the centre, which tie into the club’s intentions to be fully inclusive to all abilities, ranging from novices to established triathletes, looking to improve their personal bests.  As part of the partnership,

"SMTri members will be able to take advantage of the club’s practical activities along with additional services including lectures, member discussion forum and nutritional support classes."

Ian Seabrook, Contract Manager at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, commented: “We are very excited to work with SMTri. Triathlons are a very popular sporting event and with our facilities and expertise I am confident we can make a new generation of budding triathletes in Aylesbury Vale.”

David Brown, the SMTri coach, commented: “It is great news to be able to team up with Stoke Mandeville Stadium. The facilities are first class and I am confident we will build a strong partnership. I am passionate about coaching people because I gain great pleasure in seeing people achieve their results regardless of their starting point.”

David has been coaching triathlon for nine years and has a level three qualification from BTF, a BSc and a MSc in Human Performance.

People can join the club with a monthly subscription or with pre paid sessions.

For those unfamiliar with triathlons, they are athletic contests in which participants compete without stopping in three successive events, usually long-distance swimming, bicycling, and running.
