Buckinghamshire may have welcomed the world in 2012 with over 300,000 spectators rating Dorney Lake (www.dorneylake.co.uk) as the most popular of all the Olympic and Paralympic venues, but the tradition of hosting international and national sporting competitions runs throughout the heart of the county.
At the opposite end of the county to Dorney is Silverstone (www.silverstone.co.uk) the heartbeat of the British Motor Racing Industry. The circuit hosts the British Grand Prix each July and boasts a programme of national and international motorsports events running throughout the year. Wormsley, nestled into the Chiltern Hills is widely regarded as the most picturesque cricket ground (www.wormsleycricket.co.uk) in England. In 2013 the ground was granted the honour of hosting the Women’s Ashes test as part of an ever growing programme of prestige events.
